This type of custom scrambler bike, with its rebellious air, adventurous spirit, and retro off-road aesthetic, has gained ground not only on the road… but also in the world’s most exclusive motorcycle customization workshops.

What is a scrambler motorcycle?

A Scrambler is a bike that blends the best of both road and off-road. It features hybrid tires, a raised exhaust, a flat seat, cropped fenders, and a vintage aesthetic reminiscent of the enduro bikes of the 1960s and 1970s. In essence: ruggedness, simplicity, and a whole lot of personality.

Why transform your motorcycle into a scrambler?

More and more customers are asking us how to transform their motorcycle into a scrambler. And with good reason: this style is perfect for those looking for a unique bike, capable of tackling all types of terrain without sacrificing style or comfort. How to transform your motorcycle into a cafe racer: a step-by-step guide

How to transform your motorcycle into a cafe racer: a step-by-step guide

Transforming your motorcycle into a cafe racer isn’t just a matter of aesthetics: it’s a statement of style and passion for classics. If you’ve ever dreamed of owning a bike that combines speed, elegance, and a vintage spirit, you’ve come to the right place. In this comprehensive guide, we’ll take you step-by-step through everything you need to know to turn your motorcycle into a true cafe racer.

What is a cafe racer motorcycle?

A cafe racer is a type of custom motorcycle inspired by British motorcycles from the 1950s and 1960s, created to be fast, lightweight, and with a minimalist design. Its name comes from the young men who raced from one cafe to another in London, competing on short trips. The style is characterized by solo seats, low clip-on handlebars, aerodynamic tailpipes, sport exhausts, and a forward-leaning riding position.

Choosing the ideal base motorcycle

Not all bikes are equally suitable for a cafe racer conversion. The most popular are classic naked bikes with twin- or single-cylinder engines. Some recommended options:
– Honda CB (350, 500, 750)
– BMW R (R65, R80, R100)
– Yamaha XJ or SR
– Suzuki GS
– Harley-Davidson Sportster (for a more muscular cafe racer)

The important thing is that it has a simple and stable chassis, allowing for easy customization and a good mechanical foundation.

Phases of transformation

Converting a motorcycle into a cafe racer can be divided into several stages:

1. Disassembly

Start by removing all the parts you won’t be using: the original seat, tail, fenders, lighting, fairing (if applicable), and unnecessary supports. This phase allows you to see the skeleton of the bike and begin planning.

2. Chassis modifications

Many cafe racers have their rear subframes shortened or redesigned to accommodate a solo seat with a bullet-style tailpipe. This requires welding and, in many cases, homologation. At Lord Drake Kustoms, we do it with precision and guaranteed safety.

3. Suspensions and wheels

You can upgrade the front and rear suspension with sport or classic components. It’s also common to replace the wheels with wire-tipped rims and install vintage-style tires, such as Firestone Deluxe.

4. Seat and tank

The seat is usually flat with a built-in tailpiece. The tank can be kept or replaced with a slimmer, more classic one. The seat-tank combination largely defines the cafe racer profile.

5. Handlebar and riding position

Clip-on handlebars or sporty clip-ons are typical. They force a more forward-leaning, aggressive, racing-style stance. Rearsets for rearward-mounted footpegs can also be installed.

6. Exhaust and sound

A good exhaust transforms not only the sound but also the soul of the bike. You can opt for homemade exhausts or specialized brands. Make sure you comply with regulations if you plan to ride legally.

7. Painting and finishes

This is where your personal style comes in: vintage paint, polished metal, stripes, custom logos… At Lord Drake Kustoms, we do exclusive paint jobs and handcrafted finishes to make your motorcycle unique.

Legalization and homologation

In Spain and many European countries, any structural modification must be approved. This includes the frame, exhausts, lighting, and suspension. We handle the entire approval process so you can just enjoy your motorcycle.

Why do it with professionals?

Although many attempt to customize their motorcycles on their own, working with a specialized workshop like Lord Drake Kustoms guarantees quality, safety, technical advice, personalized design, and legality. We’ve been turning dreams into reality on two wheels for over a decade.

Biker fashion: how to dress in the LDK style

Biker fashion: how to dress in the LDK style

A custom motorcycle isn’t just a machine. It’s a way of life.
And like every way of life, it has its style. At Lord Drake Kustoms, the aesthetic goes beyond the workshop: it’s born from biker culture, vintage design, and the attitude of those who don’t follow trends, they create them.
Today we show you how you can dress in pure LDK style, biker fashion on and off the road.

1. Jackets: leather, denim or technical feel

The classic black leather jacket remains a symbol. But at LDK we also like:

  • Distressed denim jackets with custom patches
  • Technical clothing inspired by the café racer world
  • Details such as visible zippers, straight collars or printed linings

LDK Tip: A well-chosen jacket says more about you than any helmet.

2. T-shirts with soul (and a message)

LDK Apparel T-shirts are not merchandise.
They’re an extension of our philosophy. That’s why we work with our own, limited-edition designs and graphics inspired by:

  • Legendary custom bikes (like the Neoracer or the Bultracker)
  • American and European vintage aesthetics
  • Phrases that connect with the rebellious attitude of the biker world

100% cotton, handcrafted and shipped worldwide.

3. Reinforced jeans or urban-cut pants

No more “plastic” motorcycle clothing. We’re committed to:

  • Jeans with hidden reinforcements for driving
  • Chino-style trousers with integrated protection
  • Clothes you can wear on the road and in a bar without looking like Robocop

Functionality without sacrificing style.

4. Boots: workshop, street or combat

Forget trail or racing boots.
The LDK style straddles the urban, vintage military, and industrial, with options like:

  • Engineer or combat type boots
  • Reinforced shoes with classic style
  • Thick soles, visible seams and treated leather

5. Accessories: glasses, caps, watches, backpacks

Every detail counts. That’s why at LDK we strive to offer:

  • Retro-inspired sunglasses with durable materials
  • Caps with premium embroidery
  • Lightweight waxed canvas backpacks
  • Leather bracelets, patches or bandanas

Custom aesthetics without looking like a costume.

And what is LDK Apparel?

LDK Apparel is our new clothing line for custom and biker fashion enthusiasts.
Garments designed by and for bikers, with the same level of detail and exclusivity we apply to our motorcycles.

Coming soon to our website.

Dress what you drive. Live what you are.

At Lord Drake Kustoms, we don’t sell clothes.
We create identity.

Common mistakes when modifying a motorcycle (and how to avoid them)

Common mistakes when modifying a motorcycle (and how to avoid them)

Modifying a motorcycle can be an incredible experience… or a real headache. At Lord Drake Kustoms, we’ve seen it all: from poorly executed projects to bikes that are impossible to homologate.
If you’re thinking about customizing your motorcycle, avoid these common mistakes and make sure your transformation doesn’t end up being a nightmare.

1. Cutting the chassis without homologation

One of the most serious mistakes: cutting or modifying the frame without considering the homologation regulations.
This can make your motorcycle unroadworthy, even if it looks spectacular.

Always consult with experts before modifying structure or geometry.

2. Buying cheap or incompatible parts

Low-quality “universal” parts are often chosen. The result:

  • Poor fit
  • Vibrations
  • Loss of reliability or aesthetics

Invest in parts designed for your model (like those from LDK Parts) and make sure they come with a warranty and support.

3. Mixing styles without sense

Combining café racer elements with a scrambler, or a bobber with a streetfighter… without aesthetic coherence, ends up with a motorcycle that looks like a “Frankenstein.”

Define a clear style and stick to it throughout the project.

4. Not respecting ergonomics

Modifying the handlebars, seat, or footpegs without considering your riding position can make your motorcycle uncomfortable and even dangerous.

Before installing parts, check that they fit your height, posture, and riding style.

5. Ignore the electrical part

Changing turn signals, headlights, or speedometers without electrical knowledge can cause malfunctions, short circuits, or even fires.

Work with professionals or follow reliable tutorials to avoid putting your bike (and your safety) at risk.

6. Not documenting or planning the project

Starting disassembly without a plan often ends in delays, mistakes, and frustration.

Make a sketch, define budget, style, parts and phases before touching a screw.

Extra tip from LDK

“A well-customized motorcycle isn’t just pretty. It has to be functional, legal, safe, and coherent. If you don’t know where to start, get advice.”
Fran Manen, founder of Lord Drake Kustoms

The story behind the Indian Scout 240 Neoracer: from sketch to legend

The story behind the Indian Scout 240 Neoracer: from sketch to legend

Some bikes are designed by hand. Others, by the soul.
The Indian Scout 240 Neoracer has not only been featured worldwide in specialized media, but has also become a modern icon of European custom. Today we tell you how one of Lord Drake Kustoms’ most radical creations came to be.

It all started with a challenge

Fran Manen, founder of LDK, received a special assignment:

“I want an Indian Scout that looks like something out of the future, but with a café racer spirit.”

The result was a unique project that fuses the retro with the avant-garde, respecting the essence of Indian Motorcycles but taking it to a completely new level.

Design and manufacturing: every detail counts

What makes it different:

  • 240 rear tire: an aesthetic and functional beast.
  • Handcrafted single-sided swingarm, created from scratch.
  • Adjustable air suspension.
  • GP type exhaust.
  • Hand-sculpted tail and tank, integrated with surgical precision.
  • Encapsulated LED headlight and “race number” type front.

Nothing on this bike is stock. Everything has been customized in the LDK workshop.

International recognition

The Neoracer has been featured in over 50 international media outlets, including:

  • Pipeburn (Australia)
  • BikeExif (USA)
  • Kustom Garage Magazine (Italy)
  • Biker Zone (Spain)
  • Custombike (Germany)

It has even been nominated among the 10 best custom bikes of the year on several international platforms.

Do you want a Neoracer or something even more exclusive?

No two are alike. Every bike that leaves Lord Drake Kustoms is unique, tailored to your vision, your body, and your spirit.
