Lord Drake Kustoms presents his new Cafe Racer based in a BMW R65.
This was a classic motorcycle introduced by BMW in 1978 and whose manufacture lasted until 1984. It was designed as a lighter-sized bike to make routes and tourism.
Now Lord Drake Kustoms has transformed it into a beautiful and elegant Cafe Racer.
How this BMW proyect began
This was the first classic BMW that Fran Manen and his team of mechanics in Lord Drake Kustoms were going to transform into Cafe Racer. Until then they had only worked with a BMW R1200S (Mardanis) and an R1150S (Mytoro).
It was a customer from Granada and a motorcycle lover, who brought the BMW R65 to LDK facilities. His father, who owned a small collection of old motorcycles, did not want them to modify the motorcycle he had donated. But she knew the work of Lord Drake Kustoms and knew that this old glory could be reborn in an elegant and aggressive Cafe Racer.
The transformation process of the BMW R65
As always, it began by disassembling the motorcycle completely to paint the chachis, the engine and other black parts by means of blasting.
Once the previous process was completed, the original gas tank was replaced by the R100 model. In addition, the entire subframe was modified to adapt a single-seat tail that we handmade to measure.
Then the shock absorbers were changed to higher ones and the front suspension was lowered. This made the motorcycle acquire a more aggressive appearance.
As for the color, we already had black in most elements, so we opted for a green color (Racing Green) for the body. The brown touch of the handmade saddle ended up creating the final palette.

“MARDANIS“, The Wolf King … and his BMW Cafe Racer with Scrambler wheels, just finished in the Lord Drake Kustoms motorcycle customization workshop. A strange mixture is reminiscent of a Cafe Racer motorcycle with Scrambler wheels and very sporty at the same time.
The Wolf King
Sexual debauchery, Christian dresses, eating habits that included alcohol consumption … Mohamed Ibn Mardanis (nicknamed the Wolf King of Murcia) became famous on both sides of the border for his lifestyle and if he had reigned in these times he would probably have ridden this BMW R1200S just finished by Lord Drake Kustoms.
Fran Manen (owner of LDK), received a call from Fernando Cuello in which he commented that they had recommended Lord Drake Kustoms as a suitable company to make his dream come true: A BMW Cafe Racer brutal and unique.
At a later meeting, they finalized the project and finally it was decided to use as a base a BMW R1200S from 2007. Fernando’s indications to Fran Manen to make the motorcycle were clear and strict: matte black and orange, a brutal deposit, Cafe Racer style but with stud wheels and as simple as possible.
Creating the BMW Cafe Racer “Mardanis”
Work began and halfway through the almost finished tank, Francisco noticed that it was too large to paint everything in matt black and that some graphics should be added in orange. He called Fernando to explain and hence the idea of putting a name: “MARDANIS“.
Fernando knew that this custom motorcycle wasn’t very normal in the motorcycle transformation workshops. He was so excited about the project that he decided not to see the motorcycle until it was finished.
Finally, the big day arrived and “MARDANIS” would be presented to its owner for the first time. A group of friends and a spectacular party that would be held on the estate where the ruins of Mohamed Ibn Mardanis “The Wolf King” castle are located in Monteagudo (Murcia).
